Sourcing from China: inspected before it sails
China is where most West African import stories begin. Verifra delivers verification and inspection there through established international inspection partners, with escrow and settlement through licensed providers.
For Nigerian and Ghanaian importers, China is not a country so much as a catalogue: the place where nearly every consumer product, machine and component can be sourced at a price that makes the whole journey worthwhile, if, and only if, what ships matches what was promised.
That conditional is Verifra's entire business on this lane.
How we operate in China, honestly stated
Verifra's own agents work in Nigeria and Ghana. In China, verification and inspection are delivered through established international inspection partners (organisations whose inspectors work to the same standards the global quality industry uses, including AQL sampling to ANSI/ASQ Z1.4), packaged at £400–£600 per assignment and coordinated entirely through your Verifra account. You book once; we contract, schedule and consolidate the evidence; your report arrives with the same structure and the same QR seal as any Verifra report.
Money follows the same discipline. Escrow is held by a licensed partner; settlement toward Chinese suppliers runs through a licensed settlement provider; releases fire in stages against verified events: a passed production check, a supervised loading, a bill of lading.
Where the sourcing happens
Two cities dominate West African sourcing, and each has its own Verifra page: Guangzhou, the manufacturing metropolis whose wholesale districts and Canton Fair have hosted African traders for decades, and Yiwu, the small-commodities capital whose low minimum orders make it the natural partner of the groupage container. Shenzhen and Ningbo (electronics and the great Zhejiang port respectively) join the published rollout schedule next.
The zero-tariff reverse lane
The China relationship increasingly runs both ways. With zero tariffs applied to imports from almost all African countries, Chinese buyers are an opening demand side for Nigerian and Ghanaian exporters, agri-commodities and processed goods first. For that reverse lane the trust burden flips: the Chinese buyer needs proof about a West African supplier, and there Verifra's own agents in Nigeria and Ghana provide exactly the premises verification, produce inspection and supervised loading that the import lane gets from our partners in China.
The China lane, end to end
A typical protected order runs: supplier verified (registry + factory check) → deal agreed with a staged release schedule → funds locked with the escrow partner → production checked mid-run → pre-shipment inspection against your declared AQL → container stuffed under supervision, seals recorded → sailing, tracked leg by leg → cleared at Lagos or Tema by licensed brokers → delivered with OTP and geotagged proof. At no point does the transaction depend on anyone's word, including ours. Every claim in every report links to evidence hashed at the moment of capture.

Local questions
- Does Verifra have its own agents in China?
- No, and we say so plainly. China-side inspections and factory checks are delivered through established international inspection partners at £400–£600 per package, coordinated and evidenced through your Verifra account. Our own agents operate in Nigeria and Ghana.
- Can you check a Chinese supplier before I pay a deposit?
- Yes: registry and status checks, sanctions screening, and physical factory verification through our inspection partners (premises, production lines, capability) before any funds commit. Escrow through a licensed partner then removes the deposit gamble entirely.
- How does payment to a Chinese supplier work?
- You fund partner-held escrow in GBP, USD or EUR; settlement toward China runs through a licensed settlement provider as staged releases fire against verified events. Verifra never holds the money at any point.
